The
MCD began its involvement with water quality sampling and monitoring in 1996
when they participated with School District 16 employees (
In
mid 1997 the MCD began a one-year sampling program, and due to the results of
the sampling, which incorporated both on-site and EPA certified lab analysis,
decided to continue a limited sampling protocol through mid-year 2000, at which
time the MCD re-planned and instituted policy of a monthly sampling protocol and
the number of sites was increased to six.
In
2005, the sampling and analysis plan (SAP) was re-written to fit current needs
and regulatory guidelines, and was subsequently approved by Wyoming DEQ in 2006.
Under the current SAP, fewer sites are being monitored, but more samples are
being collected.
Samples
are collected for E. coli (measured
using the Colilert methodology), turbidity, and chemical constituents.
Physical measurements normally include dissolved oxygen, conductivity,
pH, and temperature. The Wyoming Department of Agriculture - Analytical
Lab performs the chemical analysis and has worked with the MCD since
the inception of the program.
